Kent has over 40 years of construction experience working across the US in all phases of the Real Estate Development and Construction. In 1992 he co-founded a highly successful construction company which was based in South Florida with projects throughout the US. The majority of the work was of the Design Build nature for the Health, Industrial and Aviation industry. He has been active in various industry associations including AGC (Associated General Contractors) where he was Board Chairman of the SE Fl Chapter. In the past he also has been active in the SMPS, ULI, NAIOP, ICSC and various Chamber of Commerce.
He sold his interest in his construction company in 2006 and relocated to his native Texas settling near the high-tech haven of Austin to develop his consulting practice, The FlatRock Group.
He and his wife Sandy reside on their ranch in Marble Falls (30 miles West of Austin) along with the obligatory farm animals including Lucy the Border Collie, MeMe the barn cat, Charlie the painted donkey and Apollo the standard bred horse.
They are involved in their church, their family, their community and charity. For the past 9 years Kent has served on the Board of Providence Place in San Antonio, Texas and is a founding board member of the Genesis Cooperative, a non-profit organization which provides back office management, administrative, financial and technical services and collaborative opportunities to NPO’s. He also sits on the Board of Camp Of The Hills which serves at risk, inner city youth.
Kent grew up in Vanderpool, Texas (population 4) working at his family’s General Store and on their cattle ranch. He loves his friends and family, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He Graduated from Texas State University back when it was known as Southwest Texas State College and served in the US Army and later as an Officer in the Texas National Guard. He is a instrument rated aviator who flies various aircraft, helicopters, sailplanes, ultralight aircraft and gyroplanes.
